This is one of the most rare cameos we can find, because its age, its surpassing beauty and its condition.
Eos (daughter of Iperione and Teia) is the sister of Helios (the Sun) and of Selene (the Moon), and the mother of the Winds and the Stars.
The cameo is very probably French, made not later than 1780. The frame is lightly later: the pin shows two hallmarks: the eagle head (1th type) that means the bezel was made between 1838 to 1847. Another hallmark is on the pin, an a third is on the frame (at 06:35 hours).
The frame is funny: as you see on the last picture, on its back there is a piece of mother of pearls. It is by origin, not added later. The cameo looks marblized exactly as you see on the pictures.
I'm sorry I'm unable to show on pictures how is incredibly well carved this cameo. It is one of the most delicate and elegant carving I have never seen.
This is a true masterpiece, an extremely rare and desirable cameo.
