Origin: France Size: 2 x 1 9/16 inches Condition: 100% Mint This superb Neoclassical cameo depicts the goddess Athena. This is the first pink shell cameo of this quality I see. Carved is very high relief was found unframed, so it is in unworn condition. Our goldsmith has done a plain frame. On the bottom of this page you can see it loose, so you can see how change a cameo with a right bezel. The goddess is lightly darker than the background, so this exalts the high relief. Any detail is perfectly rendered, by a true artist. I would say there are two kind of cameos: cameos carved for to remind the painting, and cameos (more rare) carved for to remind the sculpture. Surely, this one belong to the second category. This is a magnificent, museum quality piece of jewellery.
