Leda was the wife of Tyndareus and the mother to many noble children (the famous beauty Helen, Clytemnestra, and the twins Castor and Polydeuces). However, though Leda was the mother of these children, her husband Tyndareus was not the father of every child.
In the mythology, Leda was approached by Zeus masquered as a swan. Indeed, Zeus made love to Leda in this form. This memorable union has long been immortalized by painters and poets.
I have always received many emails asking for a cameo depicting this subject, but I have never found one.
So, I asked to Antonio Coto, an excellent and well known Italian cameos carver, to carve this Leda specially for Pommeraie Antiques.
