Hercules killing the bull
Materials: shell, gold.
Date and origin: ca 1830.
Size of the frame: 1 1/2 by 1 1/8 inch
Condition: cracked.
Exquisite cameo, amazing considering its size.
The subject is extremely rare.
Hercules wears the skin of the lion he previously killed.
In fact, the lion skin is one of the mosttt usual attribue of Hercules, in the mythological iconography.
In spite of the crack I find this cameo very desirable.
To be honest the crack is faintlly discernible.
